Coronation Street have announced that Lucy Fallon is leaving the hit ITV soap.

The 23 year old has become the third star to leave the show in three days, following in the footsteps of Faye Brookes and Katie McGlynn.

Lucy is the seventh actor to leave the soap this year, with Tristan Gemmill, Connie Hyde, Kym Marsh and Bhavna Limbachia all also departing from the cobbles.

Show producer Iain Macleod told The Sun Online: “Lucy advised us at the start of this year that she would like to leave at the end of her current contract in 2020 to pursue other projects.

"She is an amazing performer and has been at the centre of some huge stories for us during her time on the show. I have no doubt that her stellar career will continue beyond the cobbles and would like to wish her all the best in whatever she does next – starting with the brilliant final chapter of Bethany’s story!”

A source told the publication: "It's a nightmare blow for bosses after losing Faye Brookes and Katie McGlynn so close together and has thrown the show into chaos.

"Lucy's been in Corrie just under five years and feels now is the right time to try new things.

"Everything is amicable and there isn't any anger there. Bosses are keen to leave the role of Bethany open in case Lucy does want to return in the future."

Lucy has been a hit with viewers since joining the show in 2015, winning the National Television Award for Best Serial Drama Performance after Bethany's grooming storyline in 2018.

Lucy's departure has been announced just one day after Sinead Tinker actress Katie McGlynn's.

A source told The Sun: "Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear. She’s been central to a number of key storylines this last year or so and will need replacing urgently."

ITV told OK! online in a statement: "Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen. This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers."
